Quizizz Code Not Working? 9 Reasons Why and How to Fix Each One

You typed the code, the screen said no, and the class is already ahead of you. Almost every failed join has one of nine causes, and most take under a minute to fix.

The 60-second checklist to run first

1. Go straight to joinmyquiz.com or wayground.com/join, not a search engine.
2. Re-read the code character by character: 0 versus O, 1 versus l.
3. Ask the teacher whether the game has been started.
4. Refresh once, or open a new tab.
5. Try another browser, or your phone on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.

9 reasons a Quizizz code is not working

1. The code expired or the teacher ended the session

Live game codes are temporary. Once the teacher ends the session or closes the tab, the code stops accepting players, which is why it can work for classmates and fail for you minutes later. How long a code stays valid varies by activity type and setup, so do not assume a fixed window.

The fix: nothing on your end. Tell the teacher the lobby looks closed and ask for a fresh session and new code.

2. A typo, or lookalike characters on a projector

Join codes are short strings and projectors are unkind to them. The usual culprits are zero versus capital O, 1 versus lowercase l, 5 versus S, and 8 versus B. A stray space pasted from a chat message fails silently too.

3. You are joining in the wrong place

Plenty of failures are people typing the code into a search bar, a quiz search, or the login form. It only works in the join field.

4. The teacher has not started the quiz yet

If the code goes on the board while the teacher is still setting up, or the activity is scheduled to open later, nobody gets in. That looks identical to an invalid code.

The fix: wait thirty seconds, try again, then ask. If it is scheduled you need the start time, not a new code.

5. It was homework and the deadline passed

Assigned activities have a due date set by the teacher, and after it the link or code closes. Whether late submissions are allowed depends on how it was configured.

The fix: check your class page or LMS post for the due date. If it passed, only your teacher can reopen or extend it.

6. You are signed into the wrong account

Most students have two identities: a school Google or Microsoft account and a personal one. If the activity was assigned to your class roster, joining on a personal account can bounce you out and your work may not attach to your name. Browsers holding several accounts pick the wrong one silently.

7. The school network or content filter is blocking it

School networks filter aggressively, and the rebrand makes it worse: IT may have allowed the old domain while the new one sits unlisted. Symptoms include the join page not loading, loading half way, or the code being accepted but no quiz appearing.

The fix: test the code on mobile data with Wi-Fi off. If it works there, only IT can fix it, so ask your teacher to raise a ticket for wayground.com and joinmyquiz.com. Do not use a VPN to get around a school filter.

8. Browser problems: cache, extensions or an old version

A cached page can point at outdated addresses, ad blockers can strip scripts the join page needs, and an old browser may not run the site at all.

The fix, in order: hard refresh, private window, disable extensions for that site, clear cached files, update the browser. A private window skips cache and most extensions, so try it first.

9. The code is for another class or a draft quiz

Teachers running several sections a day sometimes paste last period’s code, or share a quiz still in draft rather than a live session. Drafts have no code students can use, so it was never valid for you.

The fix: confirm the code on the board is for the class you are in right now.

If nothing works, what to tell your teacher

At some point a clear message beats retrying. Give enough detail to act on without follow-up questions.

• The exact code you tried, character by character.
• Where you tried it: joinmyquiz.com, wayground.com/join, or the app.
• What happened, plus a screenshot if possible.
• Which account you are signed into.
• Whether it also failed on mobile data, which rules the network out.
• A direct ask: end the session and start a new one so a fresh code is generated.

That last point matters most: regenerating the code is faster than diagnosing why the old one stopped working. Where timing or limits are unclear, ask your teacher or check the current help documentation rather than guessing, since these vary.

A note for teachers with 30 students to get in

Thirty students failing at once is a setup problem, not thirty user errors. A few habits remove most of it.

• Start the session before displaying the code, not while still setting up.
• Display the code large in a clean font and read it aloud, saying “zero” or “capital O”.
• Post the join link in your LMS or class chat so nobody retypes it from the back row.
• Write joinmyquiz.com on the board beside the code so students do not search for it.
• Close each period’s session before opening the next, so old codes are not reused.
• Ask IT once at the start of term to allow the domains network-wide.
• Keep the participant list open in the teacher dashboard to see who has not joined, instead of waiting for hands.

Why does my Quizizz join code say it is invalid?

Do Quizizz codes expire?

Yes. Live codes stop working once the teacher ends the session, and assigned activities close at their due date. How long a code stays open varies by activity type and settings, so there is no single number to rely on. Check with your teacher or the current help documentation.

Is Quizizz gone now that it is called Wayground?

No. Quizizz rebranded to Wayground in June 2025. The platform, your login and your saved content are unchanged. You can still join at joinmyquiz.com, and wayground.com/join works too. The new name does not mean your code is broken.

Can I join a Quizizz without a code?

You can if your teacher shares a direct join link, or assigns the activity to a class you belong to, in which case it appears in your account. Otherwise you need that session’s code, and there is no way to guess one, so ask for the link again.
