You can use Wayground (formerly Quizizz) entirely in a web browser — but on phones, tablets, and Chromebooks the dedicated app is faster to open, keeps you logged in, and handles weak Wi-Fi more gracefully. This guide covers how to get the Wayground app on every device type, how to set it up the first time, and what to do if the old Quizizz app is still installed on your device.
Do You Actually Need the App?
Short answer: no, but it helps. Everything — joining games, homework, creating quizzes — works at wayground.com in Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox. The app is worth installing if you (or your students) join games from a phone several times a week, because it remembers your login, opens straight to the join screen, and reconnects to live games more reliably when a connection drops.
Wayground App for iPhone and iPad (iOS)
Open the App Store.
Search for "Wayground". The listing may still mention "formerly Quizizz," which confirms you have the right app.
Tap Get and install (it is free).
Open the app and either log in — Google, Microsoft, or email — or just tap Enter code to join a game without an account.
Requirements are modest: any reasonably current iPhone or iPad running a recent iOS version will run it smoothly.
Wayground App for Android
Open the Google Play Store.
Search "Wayground" and select the official app (publisher listed as Wayground/Quizizz Inc.).
Tap Install, then open it and log in or join with a code.
On school-managed Android tablets the Play Store may be restricted; ask your IT admin to whitelist the app, or simply use the browser at wayground.com/join in the meantime.
Wayground on Chromebooks
Most classrooms with Chromebooks skip the app entirely — the browser version is excellent on ChromeOS. Two options:
Browser (recommended): bookmark wayground.com/join or pin it to the shelf. Students tap it, type the code, done.
Android app on ChromeOS: if your Chromebooks support the Play Store, the Android app installs and works, but it offers no real advantage over the browser on a laptop-style device.
First-Time Setup Tips

Teachers: log in once with the same account you use on desktop, and your quizzes, classes, and reports sync automatically. You can even host a live game from your phone while walking around the room — the app shows who has answered in real time.
Notifications: the app can remind students of homework deadlines. Encourage students to leave this on during exam season.
Still Have the Old Quizizz App?
After the 2025 rebrand, the Quizizz app updated itself into the Wayground app on most devices — same login, same data, new name and icon. If your device still shows the old purple Quizizz icon, update the app in the App Store or Play Store; if an update does not appear, uninstall it and install Wayground fresh.
